Personal Questions

What music is playing in your office while you work, or in your car while you are driving?
In the Office: Sirius Satellite, Jazz or Pop. In the Car: Sarah and No Name, Baltazar and Maria's "The Love Trap", Hip Hop, Jazz, Pop or Rock and Roll.
Describe the day your practice opened.
I got my long hair cut, put on my uniform and reported for duty. People saluted me, I forgot to wear my hat and I tried to be an Air Force officer for 10 years.
If your most used dental instrument could talk what would it tell you?
THE PERIOSCOPE SEZ: "Hey I can see the subgingival environment magnified 20-40x and you are using that micro ultrasonic instrument to clean that root perfectly! No flap, no sutures, no post ops, you rock Bro!!" OR "How do you like the optics and illumination with your operating microscope dude? You are getting this technology down! Go ahead, exploit it, record it, and teach it!"
What would you do if you weren't a dental professional?
I'd probably be doing something else to help people get and stay better.
What is your favorite outside the office activity?
It's a toss up between in-line skating, pole vaulting, fly fishing, coaching track, snowboarding with my daughter, watching my son play baseball, or spending time with my bride.
What is your most memorable case as a practitioner?
One of the most memorable cases would be the young adult woman that presented with 2 failing centrals. We were able to remove them, place implants and provisionalize them in a 2 hour procedure. I was able to video the entire process during, after and final restorations. I saw her 2 years before and she delayed treatment. Because we had better technology and techniques her treatment plan changed and was so much better.
What is your favorite tooth and why?
I heard the tooth fairy values molars over incisors, so I gotta go with her (the tooth fairy is female isn't she?).
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take one Hu-Friedy instrument, what would it be and why?
The Prichard retractor. You can check your contact lenses, make sure you don't have food in between your teeth, or signal for help with the flat part. Then if you need to pry open a clam or delicately reflect a flap on your pet monkey you can make use of the other side of course...
What has been your shining moment in dentistry?
Those opposing polished amalgam crowns complete with Linek, secondary anatomy, and tripodized occlusion, economically performed for that retired non-com, during my USAF general practice residency.

If you could be reincarnated into anything, what would it be?
My son asked me the other day: "Pops, would you rather be invisible or able to fly?" I said, without much thought: "FLY". So, along those lines I would reincarnate into any super hero that has the ability to fly.
