Question

Why do you love Dental Hygiene?

Answer

I’ve often quoted one of my dear hygiene friends who says that RDH stands for “Rare Dynamic Human Being.” It’s so true! And, now that I’ve been with Hu-Friedy over 5 years, I’ve discovered Rare Dynamic Human Beings throughout my travels. Making extended friendships is one of the best things about my job. I also love working with Dental Hygiene Educators; being mentored by leaders I admire as well as serving as a mentor to others. When I’m with hygienists, I feel can good about myself in the presence of other professionals of excellence.

Question

When you were practicing regularly, what was your proudest moment?

Answer

Being a hygienist means participating in life-long learning and looking for ways to continually improve. As a manager in my previous position, I developed systematic processes and training that improved many components of a successful dental practice, including sales closure rates, FTE productivity, chair yield, accounts payable collected, prospective patient generation, and a highly-qualified, long-term, and loyal staff. Developing exceptional processes and systems enabled the practice to be awarded the Kansas Award of Excellence (Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award) three consecutive years.

Question

How does being an RDH help you in your job at Hu-Friedy?

Answer

One of my primary roles as Clinical Education Manager is to provide clinical support to dental and dental hygiene school customers on the use and function of Hu-Friedy products. I frequently provide instruction, support, and in-service training programs directly to students and post-grad dental residents.  As a representative of Hu-Friedy, I view myself as more of a consultant than sales person. It’s my job to stay on top of the latest dental advances and to share that leading-edge knowledge with my schools.

Question

What do you do to support RDHs in the field?

Answer

One of my mottos is, “Yes! I do windows!” By that I mean that I’ve always been known as a team player who is willing to ‘pitch in’ and help where needed. This can be anything from troubleshooting issues with a power scaler (either magneto or piezo) to researching the latest CDC guidelines to help a school’s sterilization center with compliances. Another of my frequently quoted beliefs is from Zig Ziglar, “You’ll get everything you want in life if you help enough other people get everything they want.” I try to live out that philosophy every day.

Question

Why do you believe in Hu-Friedy products/the Hu-Friedy brand?

Answer

One of the best examples I can give about my pride in being associated with Hu-Friedy is when presenting new dental hygiene students with their first instrument kit. I usually mention that although, as students, they don’t have a choice when it comes to instrument companies, their instructors do, and a lot of consideration and evaluation go into their decision. This often results in comments from an instructor about why Hu-Friedy is chosen. The faculty input always makes me smile. They say that even if they’ve tried other brands, Hu-Friedy is consistently the best. It’s what they used in school and preferred in private practice. It seems they always add that Hu-Friedy has always stood behind its products as well as supporting the school (which we do!).
