The dental hygiene profession has allowed me to help more people than I ever could have imagined. I have been able to not only help my patients improve their oral health, but I’ve also been able to help them become cancer survivors, help them have more confidence when they smile and help them overcome their fears of dental care. I’ve also had the privilege of helping students and dental professionals learn more about and be more comfortable treating patients with autism so that in turn, more people with autism can get the dental care they so desperately need.

Question

Why do you love Dental Hygiene?

Answer

The dental hygiene profession has allowed me to help more people than I ever could have imagined. I have been able to not only help my patients improve their oral health, but I’ve also been able to help them become cancer survivors, help them have more confidence when they smile and help them overcome their fears of dental care. I’ve also had the privilege of helping students and dental professionals learn more about and be more comfortable treating patients with autism so that in turn, more people with autism can get the dental care they so desperately need.

Question

When you were practicing regularly, what was your proudest moment?

Answer

My proudest moments when I was practicing regularly were when I helped special patients overcome fears and get through a dental appointment. My proudest moment since then was when the textbook I co-edited, “Treating the Dental Patient with a Developmental Disorder” was finally published.

Question

How does being an RDH help you in your job at Hu-Friedy?

Answer

I am able to use my knowledge and experiences as a dental hygienist every day when I meet with both students and faculty. I can also sympathize with their challenges and strive to exceed their expectations because I have walked in their shoes as both a student and an educator in my previous dental hygiene positions.

Question

What do you do to support RDHs in the field?

Answer

I take my position at Hu-Friedy very seriously and my goal is that my customers will see me as a resource and more of a consultant than a sales person so I can truly help them by providing the information and training that they feel will be useful. I want them to think of me first when they need a question answered or a problem solved.

Question

Why do you believe in Hu-Friedy products/the Hu-Friedy brand?

Answer

Hu-Friedy, in my opinion, is a brand that stands the test of time and takes seriously it’s heritage and values. I have seen many brand images change in the dental industry over the past 30 years. Some brands come and go, but those that have been around for that many years, waver in their values and beliefs. I know this for a fact because I have worked for other large companies and those companies today, do not support the profession the way they did only 10 years ago. But Hu-Friedy stays true to its quality, beliefs and its commitment to the profession. I am proud to say I work for Hu-Friedy!
